king from canadaLondon, June 2006. The Chancery of the British and Irish Delegation is pleased to announce the publication of the autobiography written by our longstanding Council member, Sir Conrad Swan. The book illustrates the family life, carrier and work as a herald and ultimately Garter Principal King of Arms of Sir Conrad. A King from Canada outlines the important contributions made to the development of the expressions of sovereignty in various Commonwealth states by the former Garter Principal King of Arms and senior officer at the College of Arms.

The book discovers how during more than three decades as a herald Sir Conrad’s roles were considerable in the founding of the Orders of Knighthood of several Commonwealth countries, including the Orders of Canada and the Orders of Australia, as well as in the establishment of both the National Flag of Canada and of the Canadian Heraldic Authority L’Aurorité héraldique du Canada.

Sir Conrad Swan was the first herald for several centuries to accompany from England the Sovreign, when proceeding abroad and he recounts these times with fondness.

Contained within the book are intricate genealogical charts, as well as the now superseded, but historic, Introduction Ceremony into the House of Lords for a new Peer, illustrated with complete floor plan movements.
