Delegate attends Instalment of the new Bishop of Menevia. Swansea – December 2008.

The British and Irish Delegation was represented by HE Anthony Bailey, Grand Magistral Delegate for Inter-Religious Relations at the Instalment of the Rt Rev Thomas Burns, as the new Bishop of Menevia. The Installation Mass took place at the Cathedral Church of St Joseph in Swansea, Wales.

Bishop Burns, who is a active chaplain to the British and Irish Delegation of the Constantinian Order, previously served as Roman Catholic Bishop to HM Armed Forces in the UK. Among the hundreds attending the Mass were the Archbishops of Westminster, St Andrews & Edinburgh and Cardiff. The Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain officially represented the Holy Father at the events which were also attended by leading ecumenical, civic and military leaders from across Britain.

At the invitation of the Delegate for Great Britain and Ireland, HE The Rt Hon Lord Brennan of Bibury, QC, the 2008 Delegation Gala Dinner was held in the Library of the Travellers’ Club, Pall Mall, London SW1. Over 85 knights and dames from across Britain and Ireland attended the annual event. Speeches were made by the Delegate Lord Brennan who introduced the guest speaker, Cardinal Cormac, Murphy-O’Connor, Archbishop of Westminster. Toasts were made by Lord Denman, Sir Robert Balchin DL and John Kennedy CBE.

In his speech Lord Brennan outlined the activities of the Order during the past year and what was planned for 2009. The Cardinal for his part thanked the Order for its charitable support of Catholic causes as well as its welcomed contribution from a Catholic standpoint to inter-faith relations in Britain.

HRH The Prince of Lesotho attends Gala Dinner. London – November 2008.

His Royal Highness Prince Seeiso Bereng Seeiso of the Kingdom of Lesotho, brother of His Majesty King Letsie III of the Kingdom of Lesotho attended the 2008 Gala Dinner of the British and Irish Delegation. On arrival at the Traveller’s Club, His Royal Highness was greeted by the Grand Magistral Delegate for Inter-Religious Relations, HE Anthony Bailey.






 

Lord Carey of Clifton invested into the Royal Order of Francis I. London – November 2008.

His Eminence Cormac, Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor, Archbishop of Westminster and Prior of the British and Irish Delegation of the Constantinian Order, invested on behalf of the Grand Master, HRH The Duke of Castro the former Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, The Rt Rev and Rt Hon Lord Carey of Clifton, to the rank and dignity of Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Francis I.

The ceremony took place at the Travellers’ Club in London in the presence of the British and Irish Delegate, HE The Lord Brennan of Bibury, QC, and the Grand Magistral Delegate for Inter-Religious Relations, HE Anthony Bailey and many knights, dames and guest. Lord Carey was honoured by the late Grand Master for his longstanding contribution to Christian unity and to inter-faith relations. Speeches were made by the Cardinal, Lord Carey and Anthony Bailey to make the occasion. Lord Carey offered his thanks and appreciation to the Order and stated that he welcomed his close association with the Order and praised its inter-faith and inter-church activities at home and abroad.


 

Ambassador of Morocco offered the thanks of the delegation on his retirement as Ambassador to the Court of St James’s. London – November 2008.

The Grand Magistral Delegate for Inter-Religious Relations, HE Anthony Bailey, on behalf of the knights and dames of the dynastic orders, offered thanks to HE Mohammed Belmahi on the occasion of his forthcoming retirement as Ambassador of HM The King of Morocco to the Court of St James’s. Mr Bailey in acknowledging the longstanding support by the Ambassador to countless multi-faith projects across the country including those of the Delegation made a small presentation to His Excellency. The Ambassador replied offering the Order his continued support.

 

Delegate attends reception for Archbishop Desmond Tutu. London - November 2008.

The Grand Magistral Delegate for Inter-Religious Relations, HE Mr Anthony Bailey, attended a reception held at the Athenaeum Club in London to mark the 125th anniversary of the United Church Schools Trust (www.ucst.org.uk). The principal guest of honour was The Most Reverend Desmond Tutu, Archbishop Emeritus of Cape Town and the former Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Carey of Clifton.

 

Grand Magistral Delegate attends St Paul’s Cathedral service. London – November 2008.

At the invitation of Sir Robert Balchin, DL, Principal Knight Bachelor, the Grand Magistral Delegate and his wife HSH Princess Marie-Therese von Hohenberg, attended the Centenary Service with the Dedication of the new Chapel of the Imperial Society of Knights Bachelor. The event was held in the Gracious Presence of HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

 

Delegate attends reception to mark the Centenary of Independence of Bulgaria. London – November 2008.

The Delegation of Great Britain and Ireland was represented by HE Anthony Bailey, Council Member at a reception held at the Bulgarian Embassy in London to mark the 100th anniversary of the Independence of Bulgaria.

 

Constantinian Knights attend Westminster Cathedral dinner. London – November 2008.

Knights and Dames of the British and Irish Delegation of the Constantinian Order attended a dinner hosted by the Administrator of the Westminster Cathedral to celebrate the Bicentenary of the Birth of Henry, Cardinal Manning, Archbishop of Westminster.

Among those attending the event at 2 Temple Place, London WC2 were Lord and Lady Guthrie of Craigiebank,, HE Anthony Bailey, John Kennedy CBE, John King, Air Vice-Marshal David Hawkins-Leth, and several delegation chaplains.

Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster to be Guest Speaker at Delegation Gala Dinner. London- October 2008.

The British and Irish Delegation will host its Annual Gala Dinner on Thursday 27 November 2008 from 730pm for 8pm. It will be hosted by the British & Irish Delegate, HE Lord Brennan of Bibury, QC, and held in the presence of other Council and Delegation members. The Guest Speaker and Guest of Honour will be the Prior of the British and Irish Delegation, His Eminence Cormac Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor, Archbishop of Westminster. The former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Carey of Clifton, will be in attendance.

The dinner will be held in the Library of The Travellers Club, 106 Pall Mall, London SW1Y 5EP. The dress code will be black tie or national dress with decorations. Delegate Anthony Bailey awarded the OBE in The Queen’s Birthday Honours List. London – June 2008.

The Chancery of the British and Irish Delegation extends its congratulations to HE Mr Anthony Bailey, Grand Magistral Delegate for Inter-Religious Relations of the Constantinian Order and former Delegate of the British and Irish Delegation on the occasion on his appointment as an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE).

The award was announced in HM The Queen’s Birthday Honours list published on 14 June 2008. The citation stated the awarded was made in recognition of Mr Bailey’s contribution to “Inter-Faith Relations and to Charity”.

Delegate Anthony Bailey commented “Having had my inter-faith activities recognised by several governments abroad, this particular honour is all the more appreciated knowing that it has come from my own Sovereign and Government. It is also special knowing that the nomination was made by many within our country’s faith communities and charities whom I have had the pleasure of working with over the years”.

 

Constantinian Knight Frà Fredrik Crichton-Stuart sworn in as Order of Malta’s new Grand Prior of England. London – April 2008.

The British and Irish Delegation of the Constantinian Order extends its warmest congratulations to HE Frà Fredrik Crichton-Stuart following his swearing into office as only the second Grand Prior of England of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta since the reinstatement of the Priory in 1993. The ceremony took place at the Order of Malta's Church in the Hospital of St. John and St. Elizabeth in London.

The Grand Magistral Delegate for Inter-Religious Relations, HE Mr Anthony Bailey, represented the Grand Master of the Constantinian Order, HRH The Duke of Castro, and the knights and dames of the British and Irish Delegation of the Constantinian Order at the memorial mass held in memory of HMEH Fra Andrew Bertie, the late Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. The mass was held at the Brompton Oratory in London SW7 and attended by royal, diplomatic and civic personalities. HMEH Fra Matthew Festing, the newly elected Prince and Grand Master and His Eminence Cormac, Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor, Archbishop of Westminster, presided.

 

Duke of Calabria succeeds his father as Duke of Castro and Head of the Royal House. Rome – 20 March 2008.

The Chancery of the British and Irish Delegation has received official notification that His Royal Highness Prince Carlo of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Duke of Calabria, and Grand Prefect of the Constantinian Order has on the death of his Father on 20 March 2008 succeeded as Duke of Castro and Head of the Royal House of Bourbon Two Sicilies.

In addition, His Royal Highness Prince Carlo of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Duke of Castro, has succeeded his father as the Grand Master of the Dynastic orders.

As the Head of the Royal House, HRH Prince Carlo of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Duke of Castro, automatically becomes the Grand Master of his House Orders, which are the Royal Order of Saint Januarius, the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St. George, the Royal Order of Francis I, the Royal Military Order of St. George and Reunion, and the Royal Order of St. Ferdinand and Merit.

The Delegate for Great Britain and Ireland, HE The Rt Hon Lord Brennan of Bibury, QC, has send a message of congratulation on behalf of the knights and dames of the British and Irish Delegation to HRH Prince Carlo, Duke of Castro, on his accession as Head of the Royal House of Bourbon Two Sicilies and Grand Master of the Dynastic Orders.

 

Duke of Castro and Grand Master of the Constantinian Order dies. Rome – 20 March 2008.

The Chancery of the British and Irish Delegation with profound regret has received official notification of the death on 20 March 2008 in France of His Royal Highness Prince Ferdinando of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Duke of Castro, Head of the Royal House of Bourbon Two Sicilies, and Grand Master of the Dynastic Orders.

Prince Ferdinando, succeeded his father in 1973 as Head of the Royal House and Grand Master of the Dynastic Orders. His late Royal Highness served with distinction throughout his thirty five year tenure.

A private family funeral will be held in France on 25 March 2008 with a public memorial mass to be held in France and Italy at a later date.

The Delegate for Great Britain and Ireland, HE The Rt Hon Lord Brennan of Bibury, QC, has sent a message of condolence on behalf of the knights and dames of the British and Irish Delegation to his successor and heir, HRH Prince Carlo, Duke of Castro.

 

Dublin to host St George’s Day delegation dinner. Dublin - March 2008.

The British and Irish Delegation will host a St George’s Day dinner in the Irish capital on Saturday 19 April 2008 from 730pm for 8pm. It will be hosted by the British & Irish Delegate, HE The Rt Hon Lord Brennan of Bibury, QC, and held in the presence of the Vice-Delegate, Judge Patrick Clyne and other Council and Delegation members. A collection will be held durning the event to raise funds for the adopted charities of the Order in Ireland.

The dinner will be held at the Kildare and University Club, 17 St Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2. The dress code will be white tie / black tie with decorations. Constantinian Knight elected new Prince & Grand Master of the Order of Malta. Rome - 11 March 2008.

The Delegate for Great Britain and Ireland, Lord Brennan of Bibury QC, together with his Council members and all the Knights and Dames of the British and Irish delegation extends its warmest and heartfelt congratulations and prayers to His Most Eminent Highness Frà Matthew Festing on his election as the 79th Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

Fra Matthew Festing has had a long assosciation with the British and Irish Delegation of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George. His Most Eminent Highness was appointed to the Council of the British and Irish Delegation in 2002.

The Prince and Grand Master of the Order of Malta was invested as a Knight of Justice of the Constantinian Order of Saint George in 1991 and in 1994 was promoted to the grade of Knight Grand Cross of Justice.

HRH The Duke of Castro, Grand Master and Head of the Royal House of Bourbon Two Sicilies, has today announced with sincere regret the death in Rome on 7 February 2008 of His Most Eminent Highness Fra' Andrew Bertie, Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and Malta. Fra' Bertie was a longstanding Knight of the Illustrious Royal Order of Saint Januarius and a Bailiff Knight Grand Cross of Justice with Collar decoration of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George.

Delegation Interfaith campaigner Sidney Shipton, OBE, dies. London– January 2008.

The Chancery regrets to announce the death of Friday 11 January 2008 of Mr Sidney Shipton, OBE, KF0, Director of the Three Faith Forum. Mr Shipton was invested as a Knight First Class of the Royal Order of Francis I in November 2006 in recognition of his longstanding inter-faith activities throughout the United Kingdom. Bishop Charles Caruana awarded CBE in The Queen’s New Year's Honours. London – January 2008.

The Chancery of the British and Irish Delegation extends its sincere congratulations its Chaplain, The Right Reverend Monsignor Charles Caruana, Roman Catholic Bishop of Gibraltar, on the occasion on his appointment as a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in The Queen’s New Year's Honours list.
