Vatican City, March 2012. His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI appointed on 15 March 2012 His Eminence Edwin Frederick, Cardinal O’Brien, as the new Grand Master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

Cardinal O’Brien was invested into the Constantinian Order as a Ecclesiastical Knight Grand Cross of Grace of the Constantinian Order within the United States Delegation by decree of the late Grand Master, HRH Prince Ferdinando, Duke of Castro, on 19 September 2002.

Cardinal O’Brien served as Pro-Grand Master of the Equestrian Order since his original appointment in August 2011. His Eminence was made a member of the Sacred College of Cardinals in February 2012.

Previously he was appointed as the fifteenth Archbishop of Baltimore. In addition he served as Archbishop for the Military Services of the United States from 1997 to 2007.

The Grand Master, HRH The Duke of Castro, on behalf of the Grand Magistry of the Constantinian Order, has extended his warmest congratulations to His Eminence on his new appointment.
