The Chancery of the British and Irish Delegation extends its sincere congratulations and best wishes to Professor John Burland, Professor Emeritus of Soil Mechanics at Imperial College, University of London, on the occasion on his appointment as a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the New Year's Honours list.
Professor Burland, a Protestant, was appointed a Knight Commander of the Royal Order of Francis I in November 2001 at a ceremony at Westminster Cathedral in recognition his of major contribution to the restoration work of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy.
