Monte Carlo, 30 May 2017. The Grand Master of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George and Head of the Royal House, HRH Prince Charles of Bourbon Two Sicilies together with HE Ambassador Nassir Abdulaziz al-Nasser, High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilization (UNAOC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding between their respective organisations on 30 May 2017 in Monte Carlo.
The objective of the Memorandum is to promote inter-religious and intercultural dialogue between nations and communities. The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations was established in 2005, as the political initiative of Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary General and co-sponsored by the Governments of Spain and Turkey. The organisation is today a soft power tool for bridging divides and promoting understanding between countries or identity groups, all with a view toward preventing conflict and promoting social cohesion. Headquartered in New York, it maintains a global network of partners including states, international and regional organisations, civil society groups, foundations, as well as the private sector.
The ceremony which was held at the Hotel Hermitage, was attended by HE Jacques Boisson, Secretary of State for HSH Prince Albert II, HE Marine de Carne-Trecesson di Coetlogon, Ambassador of France to Monaco, HE Cristiano Gallo, Italian Ambassador to Monaco, HIRH Archduke Carl Christian of Austria, HRH Princess Camilla of Bourbon Two Sicilies, TRH Prince and Princess Alvaro Orleans-Borbon, TRH Prince and Princess Sergio of Yugoslavia, HE Sheikha Paula Al Sabah of Kuwait, numerous members of the diplomatic corps and the United Nations, among others.
During the ceremony HE Ambassador Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser was invested into the Royal Order of Francis I as Knight Grand Cross. Mrs Muna Rihani Al-Nasser who is President of the United Nations Women for Peace Association was invested as Dame Commander.
The Delegate, Anthony Bailey, said “As Delegate for Great Britain and Ireland and Magistral Delegate for Inter-religious Relations, I welcome the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding. Following the Special Consultative Status granted to the Order by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 2011, this is yet another step forward in the important activity that our dynastic Orders undertake across the world in conjunction with United Nations bodies and organisations. On behalf of our Delegation, I would like to congratulate the Grand Master on his continued work in promoting inter-religious and intercultural dialogue. I would also like to extend my warmest congratulations to the High Representative and Mrs Al-Nasser on being invested into our worldwide Order.”
