Rome/London, August 2016. Following the statement of sympathy issued by the Grand Master, HRH Prince Charles of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Duke of Castro to the people affected by the devastating earthquake in central Italy on the night of 24 August 2016, the Delegation of Great Britain and Ireland joins with the Grand Master, the Cardinal Grand Prior and all our knights and dames in Italy in praying for all those affected by this tragedy.

HRH Prince Charles of Bourbon Two Sicilies and the Royal House of Bourbon Two Sicilies are close to the people affected by the devastating earthquake in central Italy during the night of 24 August and ensures his support also through the Delegates of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George who will be promptly involved in the urgent and necessary activities of the next hours” the statement says.

The magnitude-6.2 quake struck in the early hours of the morning of Wednesday 24 August 2016 some 100km north-east of Rome. At least 247 people are currently reported dead in the historic town of Amatrice, and in nearby Accumoli. Many people are still believed to be buried under rubble.

The Delegate, Anthony Bailey said “We stand with our brothers and sisters in Italy at this difficult time. We are profoundly saddened by the loss of life and devastation. On behalf of the knights and dames of Great Britain and Ireland, I offer my condolences to the families of the victims and a speedy recovery to all those injured. The Constantinian Order is reviewing ways in which relief and support can be provided to the areas and people affected.
