Polish receptionLondon, April 2014. The Polish National Day diplomatic reception took place at the Polish Embassy in Portland Place, London W1, on Wednesday 30 April 2014 which was hosted by HE Mr Witold Sobków, Ambassador of Poland. The Delegation was represented by Dr Colin Smythe.

During his speech regarding the National Day and its history, Ambassador Sobkow reminded his audience that this was also the 10th Anniversary of the Polish accession to the European Union, when Poland formally joined on the 1 May 2004. Ambassador Sobków recounted how Poland had evolved within the EU since its entry, and was optimistic about its future. Mme Sabbat, the widow of the penultimate President-in-Exile, Kazimierz Sabbat (1913-89) (who celebrated her 90th birthday recently), and their daughter Dr Jolanta Sabbat also attended together with many Ambassadors and High Commissioner’s accredited to the court of St James’s.

Ambassador Sobkow is a longstanding member of the Constantinian Order and holds the rank of Knight Commander of Merit with Star.
