Sir Peter Caruana

London, June 2015. The Chancery is pleased to announce the appointment of The Hon Sir Peter Caruana, KCMG, KHS, GCMCO, QC, as Vice-Delegate for Gibraltar of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George within the Delegation of Great Britain and Ireland.

Sir Peter Caruana was first invested into the Constantinian Order in 2003 and will serve in the Vice-Delegate’s post for the period 2015-2018. This appointment is the first of its kind and elevates Gibraltar to the highest institutional level within the Delegation. This decision has been taken in light of the Order’s wish to build on the foundations already established and to develop and launch a long-term charitable programme with Gibraltar. The Order has been active in Gibraltar for over 200 years and has during that time included senior religious, state, civic and business leaders among its membership.

Sir Peter has a long career in public service, including election for four consecutive terms totalling 15 years as Chief Minister of Gibraltar. Sir Peter was knighted in the 2013 Queen’s Birthday Honours List and was appointed a Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George (KCMG).

Sir Peter Caruana said “I am delighted by the decision to elevate Gibraltar to this highest institutional level within the British and Irish Delegation of the Order. I would be happy and honoured to assist the Order to grow its presence in Gibraltar and to work towards furthering its religious, charitable and hospitaller goals and objectives here.”
